Unleash your musical potential with Ms. Mariska van der Merwe, a vibrant instructor at NW Musikon specializing in Flute & Cello! Mariska’s musical journey began at the tender age of six on the piano, but it was the enchanting voice of the concert flute that truly captured her heart and became her primary passion. She refined her flute skills under the guidance of esteemed teachers Mrs. Debbie Raymond and Mr. Nesco du Toit.
Mariska is a seasoned performer, having been a vital member of the Zephyros Symphonic Winds since 1997! Her commitment to both music and education is evident through her academic achievements, including a National Diploma in Tourism Management (Vaal University of Technology, 2004) and a B.Ed degree from UNISA in 2014. During her studies, she honed her flute artistry under the expert tutelage of flautist Georgy Sandor Fazakas, achieving her Grade 8 in concert flute in 2011.
Always striving for excellence, Mariska has participated in inspiring master classes with renowned musicians like Megan Twyford and George Fazakas. Expanding her instrumental expertise, she also received cello training from Dr. Human Coetzee at the NWU and attended masterclasses presented by Mrs. Tilla Henkins from the Bloemfontein Music School.
