Christene Vermeulen
Meet Our Clarinet & Saxophone Expert : Christine Vermeulen

Mrs. Christine Vermeulen, a distinguished clarinet and saxophone instructor at NW Musikon, commenced her musical studies at the age of five with the piano. However, it was the captivating nature of the clarinet that ultimately led her to specialize in the instrument. Her early talent was evident as she became an indispensable member of the Wolmaransstad Girls Orchestra by age eleven. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Maryn Botha, Mrs. Vermeulen successfully completed her Grade 8 in Clarinet from the University of South Africa in 1990. Concurrently, she pursued preparatory and piano studies with Tommy Ferreira.

Mrs. Vermeulen’s extensive orchestral experience is a cornerstone of her musical background. She was a dedicated member of several prominent ensembles, including the National Youth Wind Orchestra, the T.E.D Orchestra, and the Western-Transvaal Youth Orchestra. Her commitment to orchestral participation continued when she joined the South African National Defence Force Band in 1993, where her exceptional skills led to her promotion to the rank of Chief Musician within the orchestra.

Furthering her commitment to education, Mrs. Vermeulen earned her B.Ed Degree, specializing in Intermediate Phase Education with distinction in 2024. She has been a full-time member of the NW Musikon faculty since 2011, where she shares her expertise and passion for music through dedicated clarinet and saxophone tuition.
