Trumpet, Cornet & French Horn
Considered the oldest brass instrument in existence, the Trumpet was first created in around 1500 B.C. Not only this, but the Trumpet is also the highest pitched instrument of the brass family. Contrary to its name, the French Horn is, in fact, German and dates back to at least the 1600s and has evolved considerably since the earliest incarnations all those years ago. Together with the cornet, these 3 instruments form the high brass family.
When starting out with any brass instrument, it is of vital importance that aspects like posture, breathing and sound production be correctly applied. But fear not, our very own “Brassy Lady”, Mrs. Elmien Els, has you covered. Being an active brass player for more than 40 years, Elmien Els has performed along side such orchestras as the SANDF Wind Orchestra, South African National Wind Orchestra and the Transvaal Youth Symphony Orchestra. Her extensive knowledge of all things brass, means that you will be well equipped with the required skills to play your heart out.
