Specialization : Vocal Studies
Specializing in choral conducting and vocal studies, Mr. Itumeleng Pooe started his journey towards becoming a very successful conductor and bass-baritone at the age of 19. Studying under watchful eye of Dr. Santisa Viljoen (NWU), Mr. Pooe completes his B.A in Music & Society and later went on to study Music Education at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. Amongst his mentors are Prof. Werner Nel (NWU), Prof. Kobie van Rensburg (Germany), Prof. Svein BjØrkØy(Norway) & Prof. Ingegärd Lindrot (Finland)
In 2010, Itumeleng sets forth his career as soloist and performs in productions at the Cape Festival under critically acclaimed conductors such as Peter Dijkstra (Holland), Jurjen Hempel, Michael Dingaan& Grete Pedersen (Norway).
In 2018, Itumeleng took part in the World Choir Games as well as a Conducting Masterclass presented at the University of the Free State.
Mr. Pooe has been invited to take part in the summer course of the South African National Youth Orchestra as one of the “What it takes : Conducting” courses.
He is also actively involved with choirs – from as far as Botswana, Lesotho & Swaziland – and frequently acts as adjudicator, most notably on the invitation of the Department of Education.
Mr. Pooe joined the NW Musikon 2013 as permanent voice lecturer and is currently the conductor of the Zephyros Symphonic Winds
