Specialization : Drumkit & Orchestral Percussion
Thulani Mahloko started studying voice at NWU in 2014 and went on to play percussion at the North-West University Potchefstroom Symphony Orchestra and NWU Wind band. Later in the year he joined the North-West Youth Orchestra and went to become principal percussionist of the ensembles in 2015.
In 2015 Thulani participated in the South African National Youth Orchestra (SANYO) winter course held in Potchefstroom.
He was then invited to be part of an ad hock orchestra that went to Botswana in October 2015 to present a concert with a local choir in Botswana.
In 2016 he took part in the SANYO- doing his internship as arts admin and as a participant for both Winter and Summer course- and in April 2016 formed part of an ad hock orchestra to Lesotho to accompany Seremula Choir.
In 2016 Mr. Mahloko performed in the NWU School of music production of Le Nozze di Figaro as Antonio.
In the August of 2017 Thulani went to study in Stockholm,Sweden, as part of an exchange program primarily focusing on music education.There he majored in both voice and percussion where he – at the end of the exchange in January- hosted a recital concert in Stockholm for both percussion and voice.
He regularly partakes in session work with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and also forms part of Mzansi Classical Players Orchestra,where he performed with them at the opening of the 2018 world choir games. He later attend the 2018 Stellenboch International Chamber Music Festival.
Mr. Mahloko joined the NW Musikon in 2018 where he fills the position of percussion teacher, specializing in Trinity College London’s Rock& Pop program.
